DANE COUNTY CULTURAL AFFAIRS COMMISSION
2010 CALL FOR ART: Our Dane County Home
Attention Dane County Visual Artists!
The Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission (DCCAC) issues a call for artists to submit art for
consideration and inclusion in the DCCAC’s signature 2012 art calendar and 2011 art poster and
companion bookmark. The 2012 calendar will be the 13th edition and 2011 poster the 33nd in an
annual series. Each year, thousands of calendars, posters, and bookmarks are distributed throughout
Dane County and beyond. They have become beloved icons that highlight the vitality of Dane County’s
artistic and cultural landscape.
Two-dimensional art in all mediums will be considered. Selections will be made from images submitted.
Fourteen images likely will be chosen for the calendar and one image likely for the poster and bookmark.
Selection criteria applied by DCCAC Art Advisory Committee include:
- Artistic quality.
- Balance of seasonal representations of Dane County.
- Market appeal.
- Illustration of the theme.
- Artists must be Wisconsin residents at the time of application; Dane County artists receive preference.
Selected original artwork must be available in case it needs to be re-photographed to meet production
specifications. If this step is required, the DCCAC will assist. Artists selected for inclusion in the
calendar will be awarded $100 per image for reproduction rights. The selected artist for the poster will
be awarded $500 for reproduction rights. Wisconsin galleries representing selected artists also will be
acknowledged, if desired.
Theme
Theme for 2010 art submissions is Our Dane County Home. In the DCCAC’s 2012 art calendar and 2011
art poster, showcased art will be images that characterize and highlight the distinctiveness of our
Dane County home. Included might be literal depictions of our homes; the towns, villages and cities
where we reside; people and places that distinctly represent what makes Dane County home; or a more
broad interpretation of our local homestead. Favored images will provocatively and positively evoke
Dane County in some way. They will highlight attributes and features that fondly remind us of Dane
County. Broad and creative interpretation of the Our Dane County Home theme is welcomed.
Representation of the seasons and annual cycle is desired.
Application deadline: September 1, 2010 (received in DCCAC office or postmarked).
Applicants will be notified by December 31, 2010.
